Burgers are popular in Medellín and we look at 12 of the best burger places in Medellín and the Aburrá Valley with very good hamburgers, updated for 2022.

During my time living in Medellín for over eight years I have found what are arguably the best burgers in Medellín and the Aburrá valley. With the help of my Colombian wife, we picked our top 12 best burgers places. Also, we found several of these places based on recommendations from other expats living in the city.

It was honestly difficult to rank these 12 best burgers places, as several are equally good in my opinion. And this made it difficult to choose between these places.

Also, everyone’s tastes are different so a ranking is very subjective. In addition, we don’t trust the rankings on TripAdvisor. So, the burger places in this article are ordered by the number of locations each has and then alphabetically.

Also, this list only includes places that have “beef burgers”. So, there are no veggie burgers or chicken burgers considered.

Here is our list of the 12 best burgers places in Medellín, which is in order by the number of locations and then alphabetically. We selected the 10 best burger places, it is up to the reader to decide which is best for them, everyone’s taste is different.

1. Chef Burger – 11 Locations

Chef Burger is a popular chain with 12 gourmet burger restaurants in Medellín with really good American style burgers. And they also use the slogan “The Best Burger in Town”. But that’s debatable as Medellín has many other good burger places.

Chef Burger was originally the dream of four enterprising friends that started in August 2011 with its first gourmet burger restaurant in El Poblado.

This gourmet burger restaurant has been so popular that it has grown over the past six years to where it now has 11 restaurants in Medellín. In addition, it has two in Bogotá and two in Cali. So, Chef Burger now has a total of 15 restaurants in Colombia. Also, it has a food truck to enable Chef Burger to bring its gourmet burgers to some events.

2. La Pampa – 6 Locations

La Pampa Parrilla Argentina is a popular chain of five Argentinian steakhouses in Medellín. This restaurant chain has some really good steaks, BBQ ribs as well as good gourmet burgers.

I am a fan of Argentina steakhouses and thankfully Medellín has several including the chain of six La Pampa restaurants. Also, this chain of steakhouses has grown to six restaurants in Medellín because it’s very popular.

In South America, a steakhouse where grilled meats are served is known as a parilla like La Pampa Parrilla Argentina.

Besides the steaks on the menu, La Pampa also has 11 gourmet burgers on the menu that range in price from 21,000 pesos to 25,300 pesos. In addition, the burgers are very good in my experience and come with a choice of fries or onion rings.

Barbacoa Burger & Beer is a popular chain with four gourmet burger restaurants in the Medellín metro area with really good American style burgers.

This gourmet burger restaurant is quite popular. So, it has grown over the past several years to where it now has four restaurants in the Medellín metro area. Note the above photo is courtesy of Barbacoa.

Barbacoa specializes in gourmet style burgers. And they have a selection of 17 different burgers on the menu ranging in price from 21,900 to 32,900 pesos.

4. Grill Station Burger – 4 Locations

Grill Station Burger is a popular chain of four gourmet burger restaurants in the Medellín metro area with very good American style burgers.

Something unique about Grill Station Burger is that they only use Brangus beef in their burgers except for the chicken and veggie burger and one burger that uses Black Angus beef. And the burgers and nice and juicy.

Grill Station Burger has 18 different burgers on the menu priced from 19,500 to 27,000 pesos.

Pigasus: A Chain of Restaurants in Medellín with Good Burgers and Chicharrón

5. Pigasus – 4 Locations

Pigasus is a chain of three restaurants in Medellín with very good burgers and specializes in pork including chicharrón (pork rinds).

Pigasus’ first restaurant opened in 2017 and they now have three restaurants located in Medellín and the Aburrá Valley with one in Medellín, one in Sabaneta and one in Bello.

Pigasus has over 10 burgers on the menu with prices ranging from 17,000 pesos to 32,000 pesos. Specialties of the chef include barbecue ribs for 31,000 pesos, Punta de Anca de Cerdo (half) for 58,000 pesos or full for 95,000 pesos, Chicharrón de chef for 25,000 pesos and Pork wings for 28,000 pesos.

Also, there are Chicharrón “wings” – 23,000 pesos for 6, 43,000 pesos for 12 or 79,000 pesos for 24. In addition, there are chicken wings – 19,400 for 6, 36,000 pesos for 12, 62,000 pesos for 24 and 98,000 pesos for 48.

Pigasus has three locations in Medellín and the Aburrá Valley.

Idol Burger: a chain of two Restaurants in Medellín with good burgers

6. Idol Burger – 2 Locations

Idol Burger is a chain of two restaurants in the Medellín with very good gourmet style burgers, with locations in Laureles and Envigado.

Idol Burger has a big selection of burgers and many of the bugers are named after celebrities (idols), which is where the restaurant name comes from. Also, this restaurant only use Angus-certified beef for its burgers. Note two of the above photos are courtesy of Idol Burger.

There is a total of 27 burgers on the menu at Idol Burger priced from 13,900 to 24,900 pesos. Many of these burgers have the names of celebrities.

Idol Burger has two locations in Laureles and Envigado.

7. Medellín Beer Factory – 2 Locations

Medellin Beer Factory is a popular restaurant and sports bar with indoor and outdoor seating plus a large bar. Also, you can watch sports on several TVs. And there is an American-style pool table in the back of the restaurant.

Medellin Beer Factory has two locations. One is in Parque Lleras and the other is nearby on Calle 10.

Medellin Beer Factory also has a number of regular promotions. For example, on Wednesdays they have 2 for 1 wings. Also, additional promotions are frequently posted on the Medellin Beer Factory Facebook page.

Medellin Beer Factory has many items on its menu including wings, steaks, burgers, vegetarian options and several other items.

This sports bar chain has some good burgers. On the menu are five different burgers for 27,500 pesos each.

8. Classic Diner – 1 Location

Classic Diner is a popular restaurant in Envigado near Medellín. It has a classic American diner feel including a table inside a car and good gourmet burgers. In addition, it has a pool table inside of a car.

This is one of the largest restaurants I have seen in Medellín. In addition, Classic Diner won the 2018 Burger Master competition in Medellín with its Gran Torino burger.

Classic Diner specializes in gourmet style burgers that are named after car models. And they have a selection of 19 different burgers on the menu ranging in price from 17,900 to 37,900 pesos.

The Ginger Jack burger with fries at Jack & Roll

9. Jack and Roll – 1 Location

Jack and Roll is a small gourmet burger restaurant located in Envigado with good burgers and it won a burger competition in Medellín.

Jack and Roll is a very popular burger joint that won the first Medellín Burger Master competition in 2017 and it came in fourth place in 2018. This was originally a very small restaurant but moved into a larger location on the same street a while ago.

Jack and Roll has some very good burgers and it has 16 different burgers on the menu priced from 21,500 to 28,500 pesos. But you can also choose additional toppings or remove toppings. So, the burgers can be custom made.

Burger at Hello Burgers

10. Hello Burgers & Beer – 1 Location

Hello Burgers & Beer is a popular gourmet burger restaurant in the Medellín area with good American style burgers that could be custom made. This restaurant used to be named Monsieur Burger but it rebranded in 2019 to Hello Burgers & Beer and has moved twice.

This used to be a chain of gourmet burger restaurants with two locations in El Poblado and Envigado but the Envigado location closed in mid-2019. A Medellin Guru reader notified us that the El Poblado location in Manila had closed and we confirmed this. But the restaurant moved and is now located east of Parque Poblado on Calle 8.

The unique thing about this burger place was you can chose the bread, the meat, the cheese and toppings. So, the burgers could be custom made.

This is a gourmet burger restaurant that only has burgers on the menu. But they have chicken and falafel burgers available.

Hello Burgers & Beer has 12 signature burgers on the menu with prices ranging from 19,900 to 22,900 pesos, which come with fries.

Burger at Medellín Burger Company

11. Medellín Burger Company – 1 Location

Medellín Burger Company is a popular restaurant located in Laureles in Medellín with very good American style burgers, which only use Angus beef.

Something fairly unique about Medellín Burger Company compared to some other burger places in the city is that this burger place only uses Angus beef in their burgers. And their burgers are tasty and juicy in my experience.

Medellín Burger Company opened in mid-2014 with the goal of bringing flavors from the United States to Medellín. And they have American-style burgers, wings, sandwiches and salads available. Also, they have a food truck to enable bringing its food to events.

Medellín Burger Company has 17 different burgers on the menu price from 18,900 to 28,500 pesos. But you can also choose additional toppings or remove toppings. So, the burgers can be custom made.

A burger at Patrick’s Irish Pub

12. Patrick’s Irish Pub – 1 Location

Patrick’s Irish Pub is a large sports bar in Parque Lleres in El Poblado that enables customers to enjoy an American sports bar experience. This is the largest sports bar in Medellín I am aware of with two floors. And it is very popular with expats and tourists visiting the city.

Every Sunday during the football season in the U.S. they tend to have every NFL game playing on the televisions. And you’ll sometimes find some customers wearing their favorite team’s jersey.

I have even seen preseason games there. You can also see college football, which is more difficult to find in other sports bars in Medellín. You can find just about every sport here from MLB to UFC to NBA.

Patrick’s Irish Pub has a huge menu with many food and drink options. The food and drink menu is literally over 20 pages in length with so many things to choose from.

Patrick’s menu includes burgers, wings, Irish food, pizzas, soups and salads.  They also have a huge drink menu with one of the largest varieties in the city of imported beers, whiskeys and many other drinks.

Patrick’s has some very good burgers and there are seven different burgers on the menu with prices ranging from 30,000 to 40,000 pesos.

Burger Master 2019 Started on April 29

The Burger Master 2019 competition started on April 29 until May 5. During this week-long event, 400 restaurants in 13 cities in Colombia are participating.

The 13 cities participating are Medellín, Bogotá, Barranquilla, Cali, Bucaramanga, Cartagena, Armenia, Manizales, Pereira, Ibagé, Villavicencio, Montería and Cúcuta. And in each city, Burger Master will be selecting a “best” burger by participants’ votes.

During Burger Master, participating restaurants sold a burger for a discount price of 11,000 pesos. And you could add French fries for 2,500 pesos, soda or water for 3,000 pesos, or a beer or tea for 5,000 pesos.

There were over 50 restaurants in Medellín participating in this event. In our above list of 10 best burgers places in Medellín, only the following six participated in Burger Master 2019.

• Grill Station Burger
• Classic Diner
• Jack and Roll
• Medellín Burger Company

So, five of the best burgers places on our above list did not participate in Burger Master.

The Bottom Line – The Best Burgers Places in Medellín

There are over 50 different restaurants offering burgers in Medellín that are typically much better than the burgers found at the fast food places like McDonalds or Burger King.

I have been to over 25 gourmet burger restaurants in Medellín and the Aburrá Valley wit the help of my Colombian wife we chose our 12 favorite for the above list.

These include several gourmet burger chains specializing in burgers, several small local burger restaurants, an Irish pub with good burgers and a steakhouse chain with good burgers. The bottom line is that in the Medellín metro area there are many places with very good burgers.
