Pane e Pomodoro is a popular pizzeria chain with two pizzerias in the Medellín area located in El Poblado and Laureles with very good thin-crust pizzas and good Italian food

Two readers of Medellin Guru recommended Pane e Pomodoro to me. And I recently tried it out. The pizzas at Pane e Pomodoro are very good and I went back a week later to try the Italian food that was also very good.

More About Pane e Pomodoro’s Chef

Giancarlo Mazarrino is the chef at Pane e Pomodoro. He’s an Italian who is passionate about gastronomy.  At the young age of 14, he started his first experience with professional cooking at a local restaurant in Italy. After that he worked at different hotels and restaurants in Italy.

At the age of 22, Mazarrino felt the need to improve and went to Alma, considered the best school of gastronomy in Italy near Parma. He then went to Alba, the world capital of white truffles, to work in the Piazza Duomo restaurant.

From Italy he traveled to Bogotá and started advising restaurants such as Le Calvane, La Bottega de Andrei and Trattoria Archie’s and went on to become the chef at Dante. And now he is the chef at Pane e Pomodoro in Medellín.

The Food Menu

Pane e Pomodoro is a pizzeria so it specializes in pizzas. And there are 11 different pizzas on the menu. In addition, all the pizzas come in one size with six slices.

Here’s a list of the 11 different pizzas on Pane e Pomodoro’s menu:

  1. Capricciosa – with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, artisan ham, olives, artichokes, mushrooms – 22,500 pesos.
  2. Cardinale – with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, smoked bacon and corn – 18,500 pesos.
  3. Carne (meat) – with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, chorizo made with an Italian recipe, spicy chorizo and artisan ham – 22,500 pesos.
  4. Crudo y Burrata – with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, serrano ham and burrata – 24,500 pesos.
  5. Diavola – with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese and spicy chorizo – 21,500 pesos.
  6. Hawaiian – with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, artisan ham and pineapple – 18,500 pesos.
  7. Jamón y champinón (ham and mushrooms) – with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, mushrooms and artisan ham – 18,500 pesos.
  8. Margarita – with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese and basil – 15,500 pesos.
  9. Parmigiana – with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, aubergines, artisan ham and parmesan. – 19,500 pesos.
  10. Siciliana – with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, chorizo made with an Italian recipe and fresh mushrooms – 18,500 pesos.
  11. Vegetariana (vegetarian) – with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese and seasonal vegetables on the grill – 18,500 pesos.

Also, of course, you can add or subtract ingredients to any of the above pizzas. And there are 12 different additions you can add to the pizzas for 2,500 to 6,000 pesos each.

In addition, the menu has two lasagnas for 16,500 pesos each. And there are six other pasta dishes for 23,500 to 27,500 pesos.

Also, there six different “bandaja” dishes that include a meat or fish, pasta and a salad with prices that range from 23,500 to 29,500 pesos. In addition, there are three different salads for 18,500 to 22,500 pesos.

Finally, there are over 10 different desserts on the menu that are priced from 2,500 to 8,500 pesos.

The Drink Menu

The drink menu at Pane e Pomodoro isn’t as big as is found at some other pizzerias in town. The menu includes several beers priced at 4,500 pesos for Colombian national beers or 8,000 pesos for imported beers.

Also, on the menu is wine by the cup for 7,500 to 10,000 pesos. And they have a selection of over 10 wines by the bottle with prices ranging from 38,000 to 65,000 pesos. In addition, three types of sangria are available by the pitcher for 65,000 pesos.

Finally, there are several non-alcoholic drinks on the menu including natural juices, sodas, waters, coffees and tea available for 3,500 to 10,000 pesos.

How to Get to Pane e Pomodoro

Pane e Pomodoro has two locations in the Medellín area:

  1. El Poblado – Manila barrio: Carrera 43B # 11-92
  2. Laureles: Carrera 73 # 5-6

The Pane e Pomodoro location in El Poblado is located in the Manila barrio. And it’s about a 10-minute walk from the Medellín Metro Poblado station on the A Line. Or it’s about a 10-minute walk from Parque Lleras.

We have looked at 13 of the best pizzerias in the Medellín metro area in detail, which have very good pizzas.

All 13 pizzerias listed above in my opinion have better pizza than the pizza chains in Medellín like Domino’s, Jeno’s, Papa John’s, Pizza Doble Pizza, Pizza Hut or Pizzas Piccolo.

In addition, in my opinion, Papa John’s has the best pizza out of the big pizza delivery chains in Colombia. But all of the above independent pizzerias we have looked at in detail have better pizzas than Papa John’s and the other pizza chains in Colombia.

The Bottom Line: Pane e Pomodoro

Pane e Pomodoro has an experienced Italian chef and the pizzas and pasta at this chain of two pizzerias is really good.

I was very impressed with the pizzas at this pizzeria. If you like thin-crust pizza with high quality ingredients, I recommend this pizzera. Also, Pane e Pomodoro is the 13th pizzeria I have looked at in a series of the best pizzerias on the Medellin Guru website.

I have been on a quest to find the best pizzerias in the Medellín metro area. And I have tried over 35 pizzerias and have written about the 13 best pizzerias I have found, so far.
