We provide a curated list of weekly Medellin events if you are looking for something fun to do in Medellín. Also, we update our Medellín events list weekly.

This article covers Medellín events during the period from July 29 to August 4, 2021. In addition, this article will be updated weekly with current weekly Medellín events. So, bookmark this page and never miss the best events in Medellín.

In our weekly Medellín events calendar we include events that are primarily of interest to foreigners. Many Medellin Guru readers asked us to start publishing information about other Medellín events. So, we started 84 weeks ago to publish a popular weekly events calendar with Medellín events from Thursday to the following Wednesday each week.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic and curfews, most weekly Medellín events in the next week are canceled. Medellin Guru had to cancel our March 2020 Medellin Guru Meetup. Our past 14 events each averaged 175 attendees. We may resume our Medellin Guru events at some point in the future.

In this week’s events calendar most in-person events have been canceled. But OLSA International normally hosts a virtual language exchange online each Wednesday and Dancefree also hosts a virtual language exchange online. Also, there are two national holidays coming in August.

We decided to include in our calendar this week the regular weekly events that are canceled so readers will know which weekly events have been canceled. We clearly identify below that all these weekly events are canceled.

Why Medellín Events Are Canceled

Colombia had 4,736,349 cases of coronavirus on July 26. At this point anything can happen with coronavirus in Colombia. We were previously under a nationwide quarantine in Colombia and there were no in-person events permitted anywhere in the country.

But the national quarantine ended on September 1. However, due to event restrictions and curfews most events are cancelled.

Future Medellin Events

There are two public holidays in August in Colombia.

August 7 – Saturday: Battle of Boyacá Day (Día de Batalla de Boyacá)

This holiday in Colombia is celebrated every year on August 7.  This marks the date of the Battle of Boyacá on August 7, 1819, which was a decisive victory in the war for Colombia’s independence from Spain.

Even though fighting continued for a few more years, the victory at Boyacá is seen as the definitive battle in Colombia’s war for independence.  This important victory was the precursor for Colombia’s eventual independence from Spain.

August 16 – Sunday: Assumption of Mary (Asunción de María)

The Assumption of Mary is holiday that is celebrated in August every year. This day commemorates Mary’s death and her assumption into heaven.

The Assumption of Mary was first celebrated under Pope Sergius I in the 8th century and Pope Leo IV confirmed the feast as official.

Some people mistakenly believe Mary ascended into heaven. But this is incorrect. It was Jesus Christ who ascended into heaven. While Mary was assumed or taken into heaven by God.

We have a popular article that looks at all the holidays in Colombia.
