In our weekly Medellín events calendar we only include events that are of interest to foreigners. Medellin Guru currently hosts the largest monthly events for foreigners in Medellín. Our last nine monthly events averaged 165+ attendees each. And our October 2019 Medellin Guru Meetup was on October 16 at 20Mission Cerveza in El Poblado with over 180 attendees.
Many Medellin Guru readers asked us to start publishing information about other Medellín events. So, we are starting to publish a weekly events calendar with Medellín events from Thursday to the following Wednesday each week.
This article covers events during the period from October 17 to October 23, 2019. In addition, this article will be updated weekly with new events. So, this article will be kept up-to-date with the current weekly Medellín events.
Furthermore, we include a few events that are more than a week away to enable readers to plan ahead.
October 2 to 19 – Flamenco Festival of Medellín
Where: Venues in several locations in the city
When: October 2 to 19
Cost: many events during the festival are free and some cost up to 65,000 pesos.

This is the 10th annual Flamenco Dance Festival in Medellín. Flamenco is a professionalized art-form based on the various folkloric music traditions of southern Spain. In addition, Flamenco has become popular all over the world.
This festival started two weeks. There are many events during the 18-day festival, which can be seen on the Flamenco Festival website, and click on “programación”.
October 4 to 19 – Medellín’s Folk Dance Festival
Where: several venues including Teatro Pablo Tobón Uribe, Parque Bibloteca 12 de octubre and Teatro Macondo
When: October 4 to 19
Cost: most events during this festival are free but one event costs 10,000 pesos.
Huellas Folcloriad Medellín 2019 is the seventh year of this folk-dance festival in Medellín. This folk-dance festival brings together more than 30 dance companies in the country.
This festival started two weeks. Programming includes shows on open-air stages and theater halls in the city with free admission for all except one event. All the events during this festival can be seen here.
October 17 – Official Tribute in Colombia to Pink Floyd
Where: Teatro Pablo Tobón Uribe, Carrera 40 #51-24, El Centro
When: Thursday, October 17, 7 pm
Cost: 40,000 to 70,000 pesos
For all lovers of rock music and Pink Floyd,the stage at Teatro Pablo Tobón Uribe will be the place where a tribute will be paid to Pink Floyd’s music, his legacy and his entire career in the world of rock.
On October 17, the audience will live a unique experience with theatrical, sound and visual staging that will remind everyone of a great night and an incredible concert.
October 17, 18 and 19 – Dancefree Free Salsa Class and Language Exchange – El Poblado
Where: Dancefree, Calle 10A #50-28, El Poblado
When: Thursday, Friday and Saturday – October 17 to 19, Free dance class: 8 pm to 9:30 pm, Free language exchange: 8 pm to 9:30 pm. Live music until 10 pm, Bar: 8 pm to 4 am.

DanceFree hosts free dance classes and language exchanges weekly at its dance school in El Poblado. This dance class is for all levels from beginners to experts. Also, you do not need to bring a partner, register or make a reservation.
In addition, there is no cover if you enter before 9 pm.
October 17 – Elefun Language Exchange – Laureles
Where: Elefun Spanish School, Calle 45F # 70A-48, Laureles
When: Thursday, October 17, 6 pm to 8 pm
Elefun hosts a language exchange every Thursday night at its Spanish School in Laureles. Hang out for a couple hours and meet other foreigners and some locals.
Have some drinks and snacks and beers are only 2,000 pesos and the first 10 to arrive get a free beer.
October 17 – Ondas Salsa Night – La América
Where: Ondas Café, Hostel & Bar, Carrera 81 # 45G-52, Floresta barrio of La América
When: Thursday, October 17, 7 pm to 11:30 pm
Ondas Hostel hosts a free Salsa class with a view of Medellín from the rooftop of the hostel. Dance the night away with crossover music until late with Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Vallenato and Reggaeton music.
In addition, enjoy: 2 for 1 cocktails, milkshakes, juices, coffees and lemonades. No cover and the space is limited so go early to avoid any disappointment. Also, Ondas Hostel is located about a 5-minute walk from the Floresta metro station.
October 20 – El Oahari de Fuego Ballet at Teatro Metropolitano
Where: Teatro Metropolitano, Calle 41 # 57-30, El Centro
When: Sunday, October 20, 6 pm to 8 pm
Cost: 20,000 to 35,000 pesos
An extraordinary musical story inspired by the music of the Russian composer Igor Stravinsky, an impressive music that was composed for The Firebird, a ballet whose argument is based on a Russian folk tale in which a bird of mysterious plumage becomes the fortune and in the misfortune of his captor.
With the Iberacademy Orchestra, under the direction of maestro Alejandro Posada, the narration of Belén Otxotorena, the story of Carmen Santoja and the illustrations of Gordana Todevska.
October 21 – Il Gardellino Concert at Teatro Metropolitano
Where: Teatro Metropolitano, Calle 41 # 57-30, El Centro
When: Monday, October 21, 8 pm to 10 pm
Cost: 40,000 to 80,000 pesos
Il Gardellino is an instrumental ensemble of baroque music, founded in 1988 on the initiative of oboist Marcel Ponseele and the flutist Jan De Winne. The name is derived from a piece of Vivaldi for the transverse flute, oboe, violin, bassoon and continuous Il Gardellino, which in Dutch is the name of a songbird. The ensemble plays instruments of the time.
The group performed at the Flanders Festival 2013 and at the Bucharest Festival of Ancient Music 2015. This is the group’s second visit to Medellin.
October 21 – Billy Sheehan Master Class & Jam at Hard Rock Cafe, El Poblado
Where: Hard Rock Cafe, Carrera 43A 130 Local 115, Calle 3 Sur, El Poblado
When: Monday, October 21, 8 pm
Cost: from 75,000 pesos
The American bassist Billy Sheehan will be in the city of Medellin performing a Master Class and a Jam with the best musicians in the city. This is your opportunity to see his techniques that have led him to be named the best bass player in the world on five occasions.
This is an opportunity to participate, learn and meet the American bassist known for his work with Talas, Steve Vai, David Lee Roth, Mr. Big, Niacin, and The Winery Dogs. Sheehan won the “Best Rock Bass Player” readers’ poll from Guitar Player magazine five times for his lead bass playing style.
October 22 – Barrio Central Language Exchange – Laureles

Barrio Central Café Bar hosts a weekly language exchange in Laureles on Tuesdays. This is an opportunity for a free language exchange with locals from Medellín over a few drinks and some food.
Whether you’re just starting out in your Spanish/English journey or looking to perfect your fluency, you’ll walk away the event with new phrases and vocabulary and possibly new friends to practice and enjoy Medellin with.
No need to prepare and they typically have activities such as games, trivia, various discussion topics and some surprises.
October 22 and 23 – Toucan Spanish Language Exchange – El Poblado
Where: Toucan Spanish, Carrera 41A # 10-28, El Poblado

Toucan Spanish School hosts a language exchange every week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in El Poblado. And on Thursday after the language exchange they have a free dance class.

October 23 – Barrio Sur Language Exchange – Envigado
Where: Barrio Sur Café Bar, Calle 30 Sur # 43A-23, Envigado
When: Wednesday, October 23, 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm
Barrio Sur Café Bar hosts a weekly language exchange in Envigado on Wednesdays. Similar to the Barrio Central language exchange in Laureles, this is an opportunity for a free language exchange with locals from Medellín over a few drinks and some food.
No need to prepare. And like the Barrio Central event in Laureles, they typically have activities such as games, trivia, various discussion topics and some surprises.

October 25 – Zooloween at the Medellín Zoo
Where: Parque Zoológico Santa Fe, Carrera 52 # 20-63, Medellín

Zooloween has various educational and recreational activities at the Medellín Zoo, carried out with the purpose of raising public awareness of conservation issues. As few times in the year, the doors of the Santa Fe Zoological Park opens at the beginning of the night, this time to give life to an event of international tradition such as the “Halloween”, which captivates the attention of children and adults equally.
Zooloween is a night in which families and friends can wear their best costumes, in addition to touring two areas of the Park and taking photographs in the thematic spaces next to Pumpkins, witches, ghosts, bats and other characters. This is a very kid-friendly event.
Halloween is popular in Medellín and we plan to include other Halloween events in our weekly events calendar.
October 30 – InterNations Monthly Meetup – El Poblado

Join the InterNations monthly meetup at Resumen – Union de Sabores. This is a welcoming dining room and social restaurant in the heart of Manila neighborhood of El Poblado. It’s owned by three women of different Spanish cultures.
October 30 – BaseLang Language Exchange – Laureles

Practice your Spanish with locals. BaseLang partnered with Tooeasyenglish to ensure there are plenty of Colombians there to practice with. This language exchange is held at the BaseLang Spanish School. And the first 30 to arrive get a free beer.
November 1 – Infection Halloween Festival at Jardín Botánico
Where: Orquideorama at Jardín Botánico, Calle 73 # 51D-14
When: Friday, November 1, 6 pm
Cost: from 44,000 pesos
This is planned as a night to make it the best of all where you can share with friends of a powerful party until dawn, loaded with the best rhythms of reggaetòn in Medellín’s botanical gardens. A plague will take over the city, the infection is irreversible!
This large party has the following list of artists confirmed for this rumba, Ñejo, Dj Luian, Kapla and Miky, Roma, Felipe Gomez, Dj Mora and Nico Rivera Dare.
