We provide a curated list of weekly Medellin events if you are looking for something fun to do in Medellín. Also, we update our Medellín events list weekly.

This article covers Medellín events during the period from August 13 to August 19, 2020. In addition, this article will be updated weekly with current weekly Medellín events. So, bookmark this page and never miss the best events in Medellín.

In our weekly Medellín events calendar we include events that are primarily of interest to foreigners. Many Medellin Guru readers asked us to start publishing information about other Medellín events. So, we started 38 weeks ago to publish a popular weekly events calendar with Medellín events from Thursday to the following Wednesday each week.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, all regular weekly Medellín events in the next week are canceled. Also, Colombia is under a nationwide  Colombia quarantine until September 1. So, there will be no in-person events.

Medellin Guru had to cancel our March 2020 Medellin Guru Meetup. Our past 14 events each averaged 175 attendees. We will resume our Medellin Guru events at some point in the future.

In this week’s events calendar all in-person events have been canceled and we found no in-person events in the next few weeks. But OLSA International is hosting a virtual language exchange online each Wednesday. Also, there is one upcoming national holiday in August.

We decided to include in our calendar this week the regular weekly events that are canceled so readers will know which weekly events have been canceled. We clearly identify below that all these weekly events are canceled.

Why Medellín Events Are Canceled

Colombia exceeded 410,000 cases of coronavirus on August 11. At this point anything can happen with coronavirus in Colombia. We are currently under a nationwide quarantine in Colombia and there are no in-person events permitted anywhere in the country.

August 17 – Monday: Assumption of Mary (Asunción de María) Holiday

The Assumption of Mary is holiday that is celebrated in August every year. This day commemorates Mary’s death and her assumption into heaven.

The Assumption of Mary was first celebrated under Pope Sergius I in the 8th century and Pope Leo IV confirmed the feast as official.

Some people mistakenly believe Mary ascended into heaven. But this is incorrect. It was Jesus Christ who ascended into heaven. While Mary was assumed or taken into heaven by God.

We have a separate guide to all the Colombian holidays.

The Bottom Line: Medellín Events Weekly Medellín Events Calendar with Top Events

There are many weekly Medellín events of interest to foreigners visiting the city or living in Medellín. Unfortunately many of the Medellín events are typically promoted only in Spanish. So, we plan to find these events for you and publish updates to this weekly Medellín Events Calendar in English.

This week all Medellín events are canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak and nationwide quarantine in Colombia. Due to the quarantine, all events over the next several weeks if not longer will be canceled in Medellín.

Each week we plan to cover the best events in Medellín and the Aburrá Valley including expat events, language exchanges, concerts, plays, conferences, festivals, sports and other types of events in the city.
