History of Los Patios Hostel

This hostel was the dream of four Colombian friends and investors. The partners saw the need in Medellín for a boutique and upscale hostel. Also, they saw the possibility to redefine the hostel experience by creating spaces and events that invite community building and sharing.

Several years ago, the partners acquired land in the Manila barrio of El Poblado. To build the hostel they demolished two existing homes to build a five-story building which required nearly two years to complete. Los Patios Hostal Boutique opened in January 2017 with initially 65 beds in total as well as a rooftop bar, recreation room, herb garden, classroom and open kitchen.

Not long after the hostel opened, it opened a small gastronomic market – Manila Food Market – which was located in the hostel. This gastronomic market had only had seven small restaurants. So, this food market never became very popular except for the hostel guests and it closed in in August 2017 after less than a year.

    1. Hi Jeff, just curious – which hostel do you prefer – Los Patios or Hostel Rango?? Just booked my flight from Bogota to Medellin and CANNOT decide between these two places and would appreciate your honest opinion between the two 🙂

    2. Nice review. This is an amazing hostel and the 2 rooftops have amazing views of the city and they have events scheduled every day.

    3. Private room rates seem high to me when there are many hotels with rates under $50 and I do realize you are paying for the social aspect. Also nice review

      • The private room rate starts at 160,000 pesos ($50.80 at current exchange rate). And there aren’t many nice hotels in Medellín with room rates under $50 in my experience. Also, the private rooms are pretty nice in Los Patios. Plus you get lots of social activities that you won’t find in a hotel.

We also plan to cover hotels – the best higher-end hotels, mid-range and budget hotels.

        • Before the Marriott opened I stayed at the IBIS many times Although small rooms it was clean with a nice staff. ALWAYS under $50

    4. This is an awesome hostel with many activities and tours going on so makes it very easy to meet people. And both rooftop patios are cool with a great vibe.
