Tepito Tacos y Tequila was a popular Mexican restaurant located in Envigado with some good and authentic tasting Mexican food but is now closed.

Tepito Tacos y Tequila originally opened in 2012. It was located in barrio Jardines in Envigado and was popular with locals and some tourists.

I am originally from Texas, so good Mexican food was a part of my life there and I like authentic Mexican food. But much of the Mexican food in Medellín isn’t very authentic. For example, I am sorry but BBQ sauce doesn’t belong on a burrito. But I have seen this at some Mexican places in Medellín.

However, Tepito had some very good and authentic Mexican food. Also, they had some TVs to watch sports. So, this restaurant could get quite busy when popular sports like Colombian football (soccer) are on.

I have a friend living in Envigado near to this restaurant and I have eaten at this Mexican restaurant many times. So far in my experience, everything I have tried at this restaurant was well-prepared and the food has been good.

A reader of Medellin Guru reported that Tepito is closed and we confirmed that it closed. However, Tepito may have moved to Sabaneta to a location that isn’t very convenient at Calle 79 Sur #45A-43 in Barrio Prados in Sabaneta. However, I checked twice on a Tuesday and Wednesday and this location in Sabaneta was not open and the phone was not answered.

More About Tepito Tacos y Tequila

Tepito Tacos y Tequila was not Mexican-owned like two of the other Mexican restaurants we have looked at on this site. But this restaurant in Envigado still had some very good and authentic Mexican food.

The restaurant was named for the Tepito barrio in Mexico City, which is one of the oldest barrios in Mexico City. The cultural importance of Tepito has been marked by writers, painters, musicians and foreigners. Tepito has a reputation of being a brave neighborhood due to the bravery of its people, who fought against adversity and poverty.

The Tepito restaurant was decorated like a traditional Mexican restaurant with lots of color. Also, the right of the restaurant is roped off like a Mexican boxing ring.

The service at this restaurant was attentive and extremely polite. And the atmosphere is festive. It can be loud inside and on the weekends they can have a singer that walks around.

Also, this restaurant was considered a tribute to Mexican popular culture, its customs, traditions, festivities and, above all, its rich cuisine.

The Bottom Line: Tepito Tacos y Tequila – Good Mexican Food in Envigado

I normally stuck to the tacos and margaritas at Tepito, which were very good. My favorite tacos at this Mexican restaurant were the tacos al paster (pork). But I tried several other things on the menu that have also been good. If you like authentic Mexican food, we recommended Tepito Tacos y Tequila but it is now closed.

I am originally from Texas and when I first moved to Medellín, one thing I missed was good Mexican food. Medellín has many Mexican restaurants but most of these are not very good in my opinion, as they don’t have authentic Mexican food.

But I later discovered that there are some good Mexican restaurants in Medellín and the Aburrá Valley. And we have covered several of the best Mexican restaurants in Medellín on this website and plan to cover a few more.
