We provide a guide to Teatro Pablo Tobón Uribe, which is a popular theater in Medellín that hosts many events yearly including concerts and other performing arts.
Several Medellin Guru readers have asked about the theaters in Medellín. So, we started looking at the theaters in Medellín. We previously looked at Teatro Metropolitano José Gutiérrez Gómez, which is one of the largest theaters in Medellín.
Teatro Pablo Tobón Uribe is smaller than Teatro Metropolitano and is an older theater but it is still very popular. Teatro Pablo Tobón hosts many events each year including concerts, ballet, plays, comedy and other performing arts.

History of Teatro Pablo Tobón Uribe
In February 1949, the Public Improvement Society of Medellín launched a campaign for the construction of a theater for the city.
The city of Medellín contributed to the project the exemption of all kinds of taxes and the payment of water, electricity and telephone services, as well as the donation of land for the construction of the theater. In June 1952, the Antioqueño philanthropist Pablo Tobón Uribe, donated initial funds for construction of the theater.
The Pablo Tobón Foundation was established by Decree No. 487 in October 1952, as an institution of a social and cultural nature, with the purpose of providing Medellín with a modern theater, intended for the presentation of shows and artistic events.
Renowned architect Nel Rodriguez was responsible for the architectural design of the building. And on August 2, 1967, the theater opened.
Since that time, this theater has become an important part of the city’s history. Renowned artists from inside and outside of Colombia have performed in this theater.
The theater has a total capacity for 923 spectators, which makes it smaller than Teatro Metropolitano, which has space for 1,634 spectators.
Events at the Theater
The theater offers a varied program throughout the year in its different spaces: the main hall, the Theater Café and the Glorieta de la Vida space outside the theater.
The events at the theater have included concerts, symphonies, ballet, plays, comedy and other performing arts.
Buying Tickets
You can buy tickets from the ticket office at the theater. Tickets for events typically have a range of prices. For example, a recent event had prices of 22,300 to 50,200 pesos. Also, some of the events at this theater are free.
In addition, events listed on the theater website will normally have a link to buy tickets on the Tuboleta website.

We went to see the Peter Moore concert at this theater last night that is on your weekly events calendar. Thanks for your events calendar or we wouldn’t have known about this concert. The concert was great and Moore is very young but is such a talented trombone player.
