You need to be a fool, ignorant o crazy to live in a city so dangerous where nothing is attracting and beneficial for living a life for a foreigner, unless you like only to watch Brazilian girls dancing at the beach in tiny tangas and bikinis daily.

      • I agree with you and Live & Invest Overseas completely loses all credibility for recommending Fortaleza in its top 10 foreign retirement locations for 2019. They are completely irresponsible for recommending one of the most dangerous cities in the world to retirees.

The foreign retirement publications do not have ethics, as they take money from real estate companies in the places they recommend. So they only talk about the positives, not the negatives – and they never would say that Fortaleza is one of the most dangerous cities in the world.

Jeff, thanks for writing this article to set the record straight and showing the many downsides to demonstrate that Fortaleza is NOT a good foreign retirement location.

      Jeff,
Thanks a lot on the article of my awesome city Medellín. I learned a lot I didn’t know, as I was raised in the U.S. since I was 4 yrs.old, in N.Y. City & Houston,Texas; So I am lost in my own country! Living in Bogotá, since my 10/11 arrival,I have only visited Medellín 3 times for less than a week at the most. I would like to get in touch with you ASAP, as I will be going to Medellín next week. I will be very grateful to you & shall expand on the reason for my request O.K.
P.S. I speak Fluent American-English & Spanish; I teach private English classes too. I am at your service Jeff. Once again, Thank you very much!

Thanks Jeff. That photo of Fortaleza’s skyline is astounding especially since I never heard of the place. Although I’ve never travelled to Brazil I am widely travelled in the Spanish speaking countries of the Americas and you’d think I’d have at least heard of it; plus for 33 years I had daily contact with the Brazilian community in Miami. Thousands of them lived on or near Brickell Avenue just a couple of minutes from my apartment. It’s humbling. Go figure.

Nice post. Live and Invest Overseas is a joke. I saw a list earlier this year with Fortaleza number 10 on their list of the top 10 foreign retirement locations for 2019. https://www.forbes.com/sites/nextavenue/2019/01/04/the-top-10-places-in-the-world-to-retire-2-new-lists/#3684236556bc

      1. The Algarve, Portugal
      2. Annecy, France
      3. Bled, Slovenia
      4. Canggu, Bali, Indonesia
      5. Cascais, Portugal
      6. Città Sant’Angelo, Italy
      7. Cuenca, Ecuador
      8. Da Lat, Vietnam
      9. Da Nang, Vietnam
      10. Fortaleza, Brazil

I see you compared Medellin with Algarve, Cuenca and Fortaleza and Medellín beats all 3 cities. Medellín probably beats every city on that list.

Amazing they are recommending Fortaleza to retirees when its one of the most dangerous cites in the world. I bet they leave that fact out of their publication.

      • That Live & Invest list of top 10 foreign retirement locations for 2019 is pathetic. Where is Panama, where is Mexico, where is Colombia and they have 5 cities in Europe and 2 cities in Vietnam. What a complete joke.

      • Yes, I was surprised to see Fortaleza on that list plus 2 cities in Vietnam. Live and Invest Overseas changed its methodology this year but I highly question their methodology if it generated that top 10 list. And only two cities in Latin America — Fortaleza and the other being Cuenca that Medellín also easily beats – https://medellinguru.com/medellin-vs-cuenca/
