I love your story! I am also making plans to take the plunge, after 11 years living in southern California.
I have been doing my research for over a year now, watching Youtube videos and joining groups such as the Medellin Guru, and the outcome of my research always points to Medellin. Colombia has the vibe I want in my retirement. Colombia is AMAZING! It is affordable. The people are warm and the country is so diverse. There is so much to see.
For me, the US is too “cold” culturally.
I am still struggling with myself whether I should seek the retiree visa — what are the pros and cons — or I should simply stick to the 6-month visiting visa yearly for US citizens. Once I make my decision and begin to take some Spanish language lessons, I will see you all there!
Hey Jacques I‘m glad you liked our story. Yes you are right we love Colombia especially Medellín.
First of all you can come to Medellín on your tourist visa and when you are down here apply for the pensionado visa if you want. Otherwise just come down the first couple of times on your tourist visa. I would not hurry anything. This is where people make to most mistake and loose a lot of money and time.
