XlVII Festival de la Cometa Jericó 2025 – Kite Festival
The sky of Jericó will be filled with color, culture, and tradition! From August 15 to 18, 2025, we will celebrate the XLVII Kite Festival, an emblematic festival that this year pays tribute to Jericó’s 175 years with the motto: “History, culture, magic, and carnival.”
For four days, enjoy kite contests, daytime and nighttime flying, a parade, the Trova Festival, the “Guarniel de Oro,” a popular stage, a sancocho contest, and much more. Additionally, this year the invited department is Nariño, with its spectacular Carnival of Blacks and Whites, which will bring joy and color to this celebration.

Jericó is a picturesque municipality in the Antioquia department of Colombia, renowned for its natural beauty and rich cultural and religious heritage. It is particularly famous for being the birthplace of Santa Laura Montoya Upegui, the first Colombian saint. The local economy is primarily based on agriculture, particularly coffee cultivation, and the craft of “guarniel,” a traditional leather bag.
The Jericó Kite Festival is one of the region’s most iconic events, celebrating the tradition of flying kites, which is deeply rooted in Antioquian culture. This annual festival, held in August, fills the sky over Jericó with colors, featuring thousands of kites of all shapes and sizes. The event attracts visitors from all over and encourages community participation, with kite contests, daytime and nighttime flight exhibitions, parades, and cultural activities that highlight local identity and the joy of its residents.
