II Festival Fotográfico de Medellín – Photography Festival
From the creation of a Latin American Documentary Photography Laboratory, for four months, from April to August and virtually, forty-six participants have been part of a space for training, creation and reflection, hand in hand with renowned Latin American photographers: Adriana Loureiro, Alejandro Cegarra, Sarah Pabst, Sara Wayra Aliaga, Vilena Figueira and Federico Ríos.
This Laboratory will culminate in Medellín, between August 12 and 16, within the framework of the II Photographic Festival, with a great meeting between mentors and participants from all over Latin America and an academic agenda in which four photographers winners of the World Press Photo will participate; an expert in archive management and activation; one of the selected artists from the Photo Vogue Panorama Latinoamericano 2024, photographers and editors from different media outlets such as The New York Times; as well as academics and experts from the local and national spheres.
📚 History & Interesting Facts:
The Medellín Photographic Festival is a dissemination and appropriation initiative of the Photographic Archive of the Medellín Public Pilot Library, which, since 1978, has preserved and energized a valuable visual heritage and, to this day, continues to grow as a living record of our memory. With more than 1,800,000 images in custody, the Photographic Archive was declared by UNESCO in 2012 as “Regional Register of the Memory of the World Program,” and its value transcends the borders of the regional context.
