October 11,2024 My name is Todd Kane I paid a Company called Expatgroup.co. to help me get a Marriage Visa for the Country of Colombia. Sure maybe I could have done it myself but I don’t know the best and fastest way to do it. I mean to get the Visa for that Country. This review is regarding the excellent work by Expatgroup.co while helping us obtain a Colombian Marriage Visa, while my husband and I were in the USA at the time of the application. The Expatgroup team was very organized, first outlining the steps and costs. Once we hired Expatgroup, we were assigned a bi-lingual specialist (Karen) who advised the game plan and documentation requirements, using WhatsApp and Email. We approached it one step at a time, and Karen responded to all questions rapidly and worked with us until each document was ready. The last step was to print documents she sent to us, and get stamped by the Colombian Consulate. This went smoothly thanks to being well prepared. As a result my husband obtained the VISA desired, and we are still communicating with Expatgroup to help us register the visa when we return to Colombia. I tried applying for a digital nomad visa on my own and was rejected. Expat Group helped me navigate the process for getting a digital nomad visa. They reviewed my paperwork, summited my application and told me how to get my Colombian ID. Will be going with them the next time I need help.
I used expat group in 2022 to renew my Type R Visa which was expiring at the end of August. Expat Group suggested that I could wait until after October because of the new law which would require renewing again within 2 years instead of five if I renewed before October. That showed to me that they were more concerned about me as a client then making the quick sale. When I explained my situation to them they made sure it got renewed in time for us to be able to complete buying and selling of apartamentos in Santa Marta.

I recently used Expat group for my type M Visa in Colombia because after getting married I was exhausted after navigating the process of dealing with the Notoria and government bureaucracy. I had previously applied for a visa on my own which ended in failure (a lot of problems uploading my documents to the immigration website). When I called expatgroup my document date was due. Expatgroup to seek help from the embassy. I did my own Resident Visa back in 2019, but now when I went to renew it, the whole online process was just to complex. I read the reviews for expatgroup, and decided to let them handle it all. I first learned of Medellin Guru in 2020 via the web while searching for information on obtaining a
Colombian Resident visa. I do not know the mechanism whereby Medellin Guru and Expatgroup.co
collaborate but I understand the Expatgroup handles the visa process on behalf of Medellin Guru.
Medellin Guru offers numerous services including visa service, real estate translations, health insurance,
legal matters and etc. Additionally, the agency publishes an on-line information source that is quite
valuable. I only have experience with the visa service, but the newsletter is very useful, as I will explain
later.
My first experience was in August 2020 when I contacted Medellin Guru about applying for a Colombian
Resident visa. I am married to a Colombiana (for nearly 50 years) and we established residence in Santa
Marta. We are both retired and have one son that was born in Colombia in 1983. Expatgroup
fascinated the visa process and provided valuable assistance throughout the process. The required
paper work can be overwhelming but the staff of Expatgroup know the process and submit papers that
meet the requirements of Colombian authorities. It would be difficult for one to do this without their
assistance. My first Resident via was granted without two weeks after submitting the required papers.
This was in August 2020. Shortly after this Colombian authorities passed new regulations in October
2020 that requires all visas issued prior to October 2020 to be reissued. I would not have learned about
this requirement without the assistance of the Expatgroup newsletter. I contracted Expatgroup services
again and they successfully obtained a new Resident Visa within a few weeks.
The costs for Expatgroup services are not excessive, taking into account if one attempted to do this
alone, you would require visits to Bogota, stand in line at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to submit the
paperwork and again return to collect your passport. I highly recommend the services of both Medellin
Guru and Expatgroup to any non-Colombian for visa services. Additionally, I recommend that one
subscribe to both Medellin Guru and Expatgroup newsletters,, both are very useful.

I used Expat Group to do the process of ‘re-validating’ the R visa I have had for many years. It seems like the visa had to be ‘renewed’ but the process was referred to as a transfer. Anyway, just another unavoidable government process to remind us we are all just slaves. I went into the process thinking Expat Group would overcharge and underdeliver, as this is what one comes to expect these days, especially when payment is made in USD. But I was very pleasantly surprised to learn throughout the process that this did not happen. Expat Group was very good at communicating quickly and with full disclosure. The process went pretty fast once they had the items they needed from me. The cost was slightly higher than using one of the local immigration consultants you can find near the office of Migracion in Belen, but it was worth it since the communication process was totally in English and they accept US credit cards for payment.
I made the mistake of trying to get my visa on my own, it was denied quickly because I had no idea what I was doing. I contacted and hired expatgroup.co to assist and from then on it was smooth sailing. In 2023 I utilized the services of Expatgroup.co to receive my Columbia retirement visa. The process was smooth and uncomplicated with the proffesional and knowledgeable services that were provided. I tried myself 4 years ago to apply for my M visa while was in Colombia on the immigration website but it soon became apparent of the difficulties in doing it solo and eventually gave up.
