We provide a guide to Universidad de Medellín Teatro, which is the largest theater in Medellín that hosts many events yearly including concerts and other performing arts.

Several Medellin Guru readers have asked about the theaters in Medellín. So, we started looking at the theaters in Medellín. And this is the fifth theater we have looked at.

Universidad de Medellín Teatro (University of Medellín Theater) is reportedly the largest theater in Medellín. And this theater is larger than Teatro Metropolitano in El Centro, due to having 1,702 seats compared to Teatro Metropolitano with 1,634 seats.

Universidad de Medellín Teatro hosts many events each year including concerts, plays, dance, comedy and other performing arts plus some university and business events.

History of Universidad de Medellín Teatro

Universidad de Medellín Teatro opened on September 26, 1985. And the theater was given the name of Gabriel Obregón Botero in 1988, who was the main promoter of the theater.

In the beginning, this theater was for the exclusive use of the university. But later it started to offer commercial services for concerts and other events moving away from just serving the university. And now a majority of the events at this theater are not university events.

The University of Medellín was founded in February 1950. University of Medellín is a private Colombian university located in Medellín offering undergraduate programs, masters, and doctoral programs.
