    1. Could litterally retire with 500k in colombia. Just invest and get 10% every year.

.. $250 a monrh apartment… $2-$3 meals….. 4k a month passive income is plenty.. now you are no king but still can live pretty decent

    2. I agree with your reasons as these are the reasons I moved to Colombia after I retired. The cost of living here is so much cheaper than in California where I am from. Also I´m happy that the retirement visa will be good for 3 years when I renew.

Keep up the good work and I love your website and the great photos.

Thanks again Jeff, I don’t mind no mosquito, Have no use for them. Also… don’t think it’s as dangerous as Detroit, or other cites in the US..

Thanks Jeff, a wonderful post. Very informative in so many ways. Still trying to get there by mid to late January. Might be later. I’ll get so much for such a low price, really looks great!! Thanks again Jeff, another winner!!!

    5. There’s something I found out from others who live in Medellin. Namely; Medellin has no mosquitos. For some reason they don’t thrive at altitude. So not only is the climate ideal but there’s no bloodsuckers waiting to bite as soon as the sun goes down. If you live in the Southeastern U.S. or any other humid environment, you might find this beneficial especially if you love the outdoors.

I have another 15 years before I retire but Medellin is on my short list to live in my golden years. I was very impressed with the city on my last visit so I feel obligated to let other people know it’s a dangerous city so they won’t spoil it like they did with Panama, Costa Rica or parts of Mexico. 😉

Nice article. I decided to live in Medellin mainly due to the climate, cost of living, good healthcare and the good metro system. I am able to live here for so much cheaper than in the US with a much better quality of life for the money. Plus its only a 3 hour flight to the US.

My best friend in the US thought I was crazy for moving here until he visited. Now he is considering moving here also. Medellin still has a bad reputation that is totally undeserved. If not for the bad reputation I think there would be so many more foreign retirees here in Medellin.

      • Hi David, thanks. I agree with you that Medellín still has a bad reputation that is completely undeserved. Medellín still has a negative reputation in the U.S. to overcome. When the average American hears “Medellín”, thoughts still tend to be the scenes in the popular Netflix Narcos series – drugs, widespread violence and Pablo Escobar.

The current realty in the city is far removed from the time of Escobar and what is depicted in the Narcos series. Escobar died over 20 years ago and the city has achieved a remarkable turnaround.
